Getting to Know Tammie | Advanced RPO

Welcome to our new “Get to Know Advanced RPO” series!  Want to know what makes Advanced RPO special? It’s our people, and you’ll get to meet them, one at a time.

Today let’s meet Tammie Hoerig. Tammie has more than 15 years of recruiting experience with many of those years in an RPO environment. Let’s hear what Tammie has to say about recruitment and working for Advanced RPO …

What’s wonderful about working for Advanced RPO?

I was initially drawn to Advanced RPO because I previously worked with the leadership team and I wanted the opportunity to work with them again and to help build the team here. In the 18 months I’ve been with Advanced RPO, I have been able to work with almost all of our Advanced Group companies with talent acquisition. Additionally, I still get to learn and recruit in new industries, which keeps things exciting.

What do you enjoy about recruiting? What drew you to this field?

I was drawn to the recruiting field after teaching young children for a few years after college. I realized I loved working with people and having an influence in their life, but I needed to work with adults! What better way to do that then to help people find a new career? Over the years, I’ve built many great relationships with candidates, colleagues, and clients. I’ve been able to recruit in a lot of different industries and help make meaningful career matches for a lot of people.

What do you think makes an exceptional RPO recruiter?

Exceptional RPO recruiters must have a lot of drive to deliver results and they must be flexible and adaptable to ever changing client priorities. They have to be customer focused multitasking masters who have knowledge in client and recruitment industry trends. Finally, they must be process oriented to ensure we are providing that “RPO” value to our clients.

Tell us about one of your favorite times in which you made a difference for an RPO client.

I was brought on board to help recruit for a new client and I was able to fill 2 crucial positions within the first month of joining the team. This really made a difference in the relationship with our client and positioned us very positively as we moved forward.

How do you see the recruitment marketplace changing right now? What do you think is one of the most important trends in recruiting?

One word comes to mind immediately: it’s competitive! We are playing more and more of a sales role to engage the best candidates. Employer branding is a huge factor in attracting top talent and it takes time to circulate that brand and to engage the right people. In the age of social media, humans have become reliant on immediate information and as a recruiter you have to keep up with sharing news about your company or client. Each interaction with candidates has to be tailored to focus on them as the individual and their experience or interests from the very first introduction. We have to be tuned in on what makes them tick to win their interest in the position and the company. While compensation is always a factor, there are so many other pieces that play into why a candidate would want to join any certain company. A recruiter’s approach needs to change frequently to stay “fresh” in the marketplace.

What advice do you have for anyone who is looking for a new job?

Do your research on the company, industry trends, the company leadership, and how this career move fits into your “plan.” Making a career move is a big deal, so make sure you are entering the interviews and potentially the offer with all of your questions answered.

Why would someone want to work with Advanced RPO?

Our whole team, the ability to learn new industries, the empowerment to make good decisions, and knowing that our leadership truly values what we do each day.

Life is crazy.  What keeps you sane? How do you recharge?

Although they are a huge part of the reason life is crazy, my family absolutely keeps me sane, focused, and appreciative of what matters most. Attending their sporting or music events and seeing our kids do what they love makes every week complete.  We’ve recently started cooking together more as a family which has really been a fun way to spend a few more minutes together. I recharge in those few hours a week that we are all together in the same room at once, doing whatever!

Lastly, any quotes, mantras or inspiration for our readers?

It’s advice I received as a small child from my parents, but it has carried me into adulthood and my career. Simply, “treat others like you want to be treated.” This really has been an inspiration in my interactions with colleagues, candidates and clients. Saying what I will do and doing what I say, following up and responding on time has helped me be successful.
